Add the plain flour, baking powder, spring onion, diced shallot, thyme and turmeric to the mixing bowl. Mix well to form a thick batter. Season with salt.

Cut each slice of bread into 4 pieces and set aside.

Notes
You can use any type of bread for this recipe, but white bread works best.
The batter should be thick enough to coat the bread, but not too thick that it becomes lumpy.
Turmeric powder is optional, but it adds a nice yellow colour to the batter.
You can adjust the amount of salt to your taste.
To keep the Dipin Frir crispy, serve it immediately after frying.
If you want to make the Dipin Frir in advance, you can reheat them in the oven on a baking tray at 180°C for 5-7 minutes, or until they are heated through and crispy again.
