About Forbidden Rice (Black Rice)

White bowl containing black rice

Forbidden rice, also known as black rice, is a highly nutritious grain that has been cultivated in Asia for centuries. Unlike its more common white and brown counterparts, black rice is rich in antioxidants, fibre, and iron.

Additionally, it has a unique nutty flavour and slightly chewy texture that make it a popular choice for both sweet and savoury dishes.

Furthermore, studies have shown that this type of rice can help reduce the risk of various diseases. For example, it contains anthocyanins, which are powerful antioxidants with strong anti-inflammatory effects.

Black rice is also high in fibre, which can improve digestive health and help regulate blood sugar levels. Additionally, its iron content can help prevent anaemia and boost energy levels.

Using Forbidden Rice

In terms of culinary uses, black rice is a versatile ingredient that can be used in a variety of dishes. Its striking colour and unique flavour make it a popular choice for desserts, such as puddings and cakes. It can also be used in savoury dishes, such as stir-fries and salads.

When cooked, black rice has a slightly sticky texture that makes it an excellent choice for sushi and other types of rice-based dishes. Overall, forbidden rice is a nutritious and delicious ingredient that is worth exploring in the kitchen.
