About Mango Lassi
Mango Lassi is a sweet and creamy yoghurt drink that originates from the Punjab region (Northern India and Eastern Pakistan). It is widely enjoyed in Mauritius as a cool, refreshing drink alongside a meal. This recipe will show you how to make this drink in two easy steps!
What You Will Need
Blender
You can use either a stick blender or a traditional bowl blender to mix all of the ingredients together.
Star Ingredient
Mango (Mang)
Growing up in Australia, mangoes were always a symbol of summer. Without a doubt, they heralded in the warmer seasons along with the sensation of a garden hose on your skin, children laughing, the aroma of a barbecue. And the promise of long, sunny evenings.
However, in Mauritius, mangoes are one of the most abundant tropical fruits. Despite this, mangoes are just as loved in Mauritius and are used in a variety of ways including being eaten raw, ripe or blended as a juice or smoothie like Mango Lassi.
The best thing about mangoes is their versatility. Mangoes can be used in a meal and pair well with chicken or prawns, grilled, or tossed in a light summer salad. They can also be grated or diced and then pickled and enjoyed with a typical Mauritian dinner as Kutcha or Zasar.

Prepping Tips
I like to use store-bought frozen mangoes for the convenience and the flavour has never been disappointing. However, if you have some ripe mangoes on hand and would like to use them to make Mango Lassi and if time permits, cut them into cubes and freeze them overnight before making your Mango Lassi.

How to Serve Mango Lassi
You can serve Mango Lassi on its own as a cold, refreshing drink on a hot day. Alternatively, you can also serve this refreshing drink with a meal to offset the heat of a spicy curry or korma! I love those flavours together.
Once you have made the Lassi, you can keep it for up to 24 hours in the fridge. Try (hopefully not too hard!) to finish it all within that time.
Recipe FAQs
Can I use canned mangoes instead of frozen?
I find frozen or very ripe mangoes taste the best. I prefer to use frozen mangoes because you get a chilled drink as soon as you’ve blended the ingredients. However, if you can’t get frozen or fresh mangoes, then you can certainly use canned mangoes
Why does my Mango Lassi have a tart flavour?
This is likely because the mangoes you have used are not ripe. Add more sugar or honey to balance the tartness.
